Virtually all Americans, regardless of political party or ideology, can agree on one thing: our country is divided. The reasons for this polarization are complex. There’s not one issue that has driven a wedge through America. No single person or group is to blame.
The idea of addressing or solving this problem on a grand scale seems daunting, unrealistic, maybe even impossible. It’s difficult to imagine a broad, permanent solution, given the depth of our disagreements. But what can average Americans do to make even a small difference? How can we, in our everyday lives, try to bring unity to America?
We posed these questions to seven members of the Notre Dame family. Here are their answers.
